Fantasticats ..the story..

background

Way back around 2001 Barbara learned to groom dogs. At her boarding kennel and cattery a few clients started asking if she could wash their cats, then a few more to clip their cats! So she checked out (pre-internet!) what was required and did a few now and then and all was fine. Fast forward to 2014 and Barb attended a few workshops with Danelle German who founded the National Cat Groomers Institute and she signed up to go to cat school in the USA to hone her skills and take the exams and she returned to Australia a Certified Feline Master Groomer.

In 2015 as a CFMG, Barbara has reorganised her dog grooming operations in Boronia to include some cat grooming exclusive times which suited cat handling in a quieter environment and before she knew it she had to provide times for less senstivie kitties during the dog grooming hours to keep up with the demand. Who knew there were so many cats needing problems solved and help with their grooming!

In 2024 Barb sold her salon in Boronia in order to downsize pre-retirement. She now operates just two days a week within a Salon (at 20 Alpine Street Ferntree Gully on Sundays & Mondays when it’s empty, allowing cat exclusive focus) and offers some small services like nail trimming in Ringwood and nearby as needed. Our Mission...

There is a general idea that cats “groom themselves” but while many cats do just fine all their lives there are many cats who, for all sorts of reasons, just need help

Your cat groomer is here to help with problem coats, help prevent ongoing problems, help maintain coats for cats that are getting older, help you with claws that catch, help you have a healthier and happier cat with whatever grooming it needs.

at Fantasticats...

Fantasticats is a non-sedation grooming salon. Proper training has provided the skills our groomer needs to handle the average cat. However if your cat is too hard to handle, too stressed to be groomed without sedation or shows signs of aggression or for any other reason is not a cat our groomer feels comfortable grooming we reserve the right to discontinue the groom or refuse to groom your cat. This is for the safety of the groomer and the cat. In these cases we recommend grooming at a vet-based clinic.
